So. With Mortality being at the forefront of the mind/attention in various abodes, today’s one is going to be about drinks that remind you of others. It’s a bit tenuous – but what drinks make you think of someone else? Granny’s sherry, the smell of dodgy Campari, or something more uplifting.
It’s all up to you.
Because of only doing this now (and later than usual) cocktails will be served later too, sometime in the early evening. (Punsters would suggest they should be served in the mourning, but I’m not that crass)

My granny always drank g&t, which she liked with the g in the glass and t left in the bottle. I’m on my way to her sister’s funeral, fighting the vagaries of South West Trains an already bored child whose Tab has run out of charge, and my mother, who faints at the very thought of travelling in London. So I will be needing a few of those.
My family aren’t big drinkers. My late Grandma used to drink tonic water, the sort with quinine in, to help her night cramps. I’ll have some of that, but make it a bit more interesting with some vodka too.

So, I’ll have a cocktail. Whatever the barkeep recommends.
Whisky will cover the greatest number of people I loved.
I come from a long line of whisky drinkers and while I am considered a bit of a disappointment for not being as much of an enthusiast as the rest, I will drink to them all with a Blackberry Smash.
My grandma once demolished most of a bottle of martini in a week. When asked if she knew you were supposed to dilute it, she replied “yes, it goes really well with wine”!
Can’t bring myself to ask for a Martini and white wine though, so will request a snowball in honour of my other gran 🙂
I’m at a conference right now, listening to a talk about numpties who think they’ve taken photos of ghosts. And drinking cider.
I was going to ask for one of Granny’s G&Ts, but Karen beat me to it, so I’ll have one of Bumpy’s* whiskeys, followed by some belligerence.

One drink that comes to mind is Liquid Cocaine.
1 oz Jägermeister
1 oz Rumple Minze
1 oz Goldschlager
A nice little mix of peppermint and cinnamon, but be careful with this mix; it is potent.
