I wandered lonely,
As a whelk that swims in deep
Blue ocean* waters.
*pron. o-shun, not oh-shee-un. It matters.

Just one question. Should this poem be shouted?
Oh… and another question. Were you aware that Wordsmith is the name of the University where the events in Nabokov’s Pale Fire take place?
Oh, alright. Three questions. Whelks are marine snails of the gastropod family. Can they swim?
If the answers to these questions are yes, yes, and it doesn’t matter, then I give it 5/5. You lose one point for each incorrect answer, giving you a maximum possible 3. Congratulations!

Whelks can’t swim, but that’s what gives this poem its appeal — the fact that it is complete and utter bollocks.
I like the idea that the whelk is not waving but drowning.
sicko.
