Is it true?

Are internet cafes illegal in China?
If so, how shall I keep in touch with Pete when I’m over there for two weeks of training? And blog – how shall I blog? And share my photographs? Huh?

  1. They’re not illegal – the legal ones, that is. The government closed down about 50,000 illegal ones some time ago. But there are still loads left, and the state telecom co is opening more up. The authorities in China make enormous efforts to control access to content and lots of sites are banned, in the way that foreign radio and television stations used and continue to be “jammed”.
Here are some internet cafes in Beijing. Look, you can even use wi-fi.
    I’m soooooo jealous!
