Bar’s Open

Sorry, I’ve been on a study day and now I’m on a very hot train. I expect you’re all thirsty. Um… 4th July cocktails, whatever that might mean to you? I’ll have a long Long Island Ice Tea.

  1. OOOOOH FINALLY a day when I haven’t missed it!

It’s a hot day here in California, and I’m going to a barbecue later with lots of Americans before watching the fireworks. So I’ll have a Pimms. A large one.

  2. You are very welcome. Is Pimms a very British drink? Are you being very British?

  3. Anna’s being about as British as it is possible to get with alcohol.

To balance it out, I’ve chosen bourbon for today’s trip to the bar even though I’m not fond of itbecasue it is the most American of spirits. Since this a virtual drink, please make mine a Commodore 64.

  4. Given the typos above, virtual bourbon has an instantly intoxicating effect.

  5. Look, you get used to people in the states making barbed comments at you all day about this being the day they gained their independence from you, and it all gets a bit personal. So yes. i will have Pimms. And then I’ll join Asta in a bourbon. An old fashioned. None more American.

  6. FUCK YEAH AMERICA! I will have three mint juleps, a Manhattan, and a hundred thousand hot dogs.

  7. (Also I will take this opportunity to express extreme annoyance with FIFA for assigning “the margarita” as Team USA’s official drink. As Asta correctly said already, surely bourbon is our most American spirit, not tequila?)

  8. It’ll be a Bud Light today, I’m sorry to say.
