The Uborka! 2005 Film Club

Uborka! needs a project. Uborka! is in a post-christmas slump, and has therefore nicked its idea for a project from Lori, because Lori’s idea is good and clever.
This project will require your participation. If you read Uborka! and don’t even leave comments, please note that you are now required to join in. What do you think this is, a freeforall? And you can stop with those accusations of cliqueyness, at the back; the only reason you think this is a clique, is because YOU don’t contribute to it. Well, now you do.
Now, what we plan to do is this. Each week we decide on a film. The following week, everyone watches it. If you wish to do so, you may contribute a review by email, and we will post this on Uborka!
In this way, we will fulfill some of those vague resolutions about getting more culture, and Karen & Pete won’t have to write so much content. Huzza!
p.s. In case you weren’t already excited enough, we have managed to nab a Top Mystery Guest to present the Film Club. Old readers of Goo won’t be disappointed.

  1. I’m in. Are we talking, like, a movie we have to go and see, or watch on video? Will there be, like viewing parties? In pajamas?

  2. I might be a bit late watching a film. Or ealry depending like I can already write a review of Ocean’s 12 and I wathced it legally 😀

  3. I was thinking we could choose a film that’s currently in UK cinemas (in which case sorry Sorsha!), or on TV that week (in which case sorry Stuart – but you can probably get the dvd), or one we can rent – We can be flexible.
Any good ideas to start with?

  4. Well, how about ‘Closer’? It’s out in cinemas next Friday. Adaptation of one of the best British plays of recent years, but now they’ve gone and stuck Jude Law and Julia Roberts in it . . . well, the mind boggles. 🙂

  5. I’d love to join but I think i stuggle to commit to being able to see the same movie as you guys.

  6. Oh come on Adrian, we know you’re going to see ‘Closer’.
I actually ran into the actress who played Alice in the Auckland run of the stage show. Sadly, she didn’t look a great deal like Natalie Portman.
I’m flummoxed by the lack of support for viewing parties.

  7. Yeah, but I don’t know when or if I’ll just buy the DVD and have a private ‘viewing’

  8. I strongly endorse the concept of viewing parties, and in the absence of any other suggestion, I think we should all go and see Closer. If you hate the idea, then suggest something else!

  9. Surely you’d get thrown out of the cinema for wearing pyjamas? (not the spelling there please!)
Anyway, I’m in Spain next week so you can choose what you like! Unless you want to make it a fortnightly thing? No? Stick!

  10. Actually, me and Adrian went to the Electric last night, and they had these cool bed/couches at the back which I think would be very compatible with a duvet and some PJs!
Let’s all go and see Closer there. It’ll be neat!
Er….can we wait till me and Adrian get back from France?

  11. Just what the doctor ordered to cure these cursed January blues. I’m in, even if this might be more my level.

  12. In for Closer but can’t promise to stick to weekly. Last year the only time I managed to go to the cinema it was to see the Incredibles. Hoping to do better this year but not too optimistic.
