This is one of my favourite things in our garden. It produces magnificent great big deep red flowers. I was on my daily meander through the garden today when I spotted that it’s poised and ready to erupt in all its glory. Oh joy.

Gardens are cool.
Meanwhile in New Cross, my windowbox, overlooking the garden belonging to the flat below me, weeps quietly to itself and dreams of Baby Bio.

Paeonia officinalis. Peony to you and me. Not sure which variety – there are several dark ones. Give us a photo when it is open, and I’ll give it my best guess.
The flower is cool, but I’m doubly impressed with the picture.
